Maths Seminar
Our dissertation is in two parts, a written assignment and a seminar. I have organised my own placement in a blind school in Exeter. I thought it would be amazing on how blind children learn mathematics.
The West of England school has lots and lots of ICT resources to help children learn mathematics. For instance, when teaching weight they have talking scales. They also have things like a talking calculator, talking computer keyboards...amazing! Its nice to see that ICT is important to blind chidlren as well as other children.
ICT is growing vastly, I am glad I have been able to see times change. When I was in primary school we had no ICT suite, we were lucky to get one per class. There were no mobile phones and certainly no internet so it is amazing to see children being able to google things they want to find out about, when they want with no help. At that age I was probably still learning how to write with a pencil!!!

Flowol
Hmm...so first of all I thought, 'ye...i can do this!' but when it came to actually doing it....well that was another story!
I picked the traffic lights...I heard that it was the easiest, in my case...not so much! I found it really confusing and I started to think why would we ever do this with children?! They'll find it so confusing. Then I stopped and had another think, maybe thats what older people said when we were young when the internet came out, or mobile phones came out...it was in our generation that we found it so much easier than they did. So looking back now, maybe if I play around with it a bit more, maybe I may get the hang of it, just like our primary school children will.

Super Duper Music Looper!
We made our own song using the Super Duper Music Looper software by Sony. After having the lecture I decided to look it up on the internet. It has a demo software you can use online, not as much fun as the real thing may I add.
It was great making music and I think children would love this software. I thought it might be really hard to use but it really wasn't which was great! The end product was good and it is a really catchy rhythm. I think I may try and find a way to put it on my blog if that is possible!

Animation Mania!!!
A few weeks ago we had to do an animation. I thought it would be a lot harder to do although it took ages!!! I cant see me making animations with KS1 or even early KS2, purely because it is quite fiddly and I don't think children would have the patience to move figures bit by bit.
I had fun doing the animation and thought it would be alot harder.
I am starting to like ICT now!!!

Broadclyst Primary School
For my first teaching practice i went to Broadclyst Primary School. I was in year 2 and found it amazing that the teachers took the register on a laptop. There were many forms of ICT being used, especially in year 6.
Year 6 had seminars. There were roughly 60 children to the class and each pupil had a computer to work on. Although this was incredibile to see, I personally felt that it was a bit too much. I saw children instant messaging eachother rather than talking to them. Also, when it came to producing written work, children would write in short hand as they were so used messaging their friends.
I also didnt agree with it as when they did work on word, they hardly ever used a pen and paper, as word had a spell check, how would we as teachers know if their spelling was good? Apart form doing a spelling test, when and how often would you as a teacher find the time to do this?
I think that using an IWB in classrooms are very good, but I feel that each pupil having their own computer is getting a bit ahead of time.
What do you think?

Snow!!!
I cant believe how much it has been snowing...with more to come?! Everything that has been in the news is about the weather...a little bit of snow and the whole country comes to a standstill. And have you noticed that there has been hardly any news of murders or things like that? Maybe its stopped for one day...or maybe they dont actually have much news and they keep bringing up the same stories.
They say there are more stabbings now than ever before but I think they are just reporting more on the news and before they hardly did any. That may just be me but that is what I think!!!
